FIFA app by FIFA is a gorgeous app that keeps you updated with everything Football (Soccer). The app is available for both iOS & Android, but we tested the iOS version on our devices. The app looks absolutely stunning on all iOS devices, especially the retina iPads, I cannot stress this enough. The blurs and animations used in the app are extremely fluid and the icons used within the app look amazing on iOS 7.
The app has mainly been created to serve you comprehensive news from the world of football. There’s a helpful tutorial that you see when you first launch the app. The ‘main view’ of the app is very impressive and uses a blurred image as its background. The blur from the background image continues into the navigation bar and status bar, stripping away UI elements, giving preference to the user’s content. On top of the blurred background, the app displays stories via images and text. You can filter the news to your preference by tapping on the button on the top right of the navigation bar and then choosing among Photos, Videos, FIFA World Cup, Rankings or About FIFA. Tapping on images in the news feed of the app takes you to a reader friendly view that’s optimised for mobile viewing. You can change the font size and share stories to social media within the view. The animation used to display stories is nicely done as well
There’s a ‘hamburger’ button on the top left which you can tap to view different menu options. The animation for viewing the menu is wonderfully implemented and causes the main view to intuitively zoom out of the way as you swipe to the right. The menu options include World Match Centre, FIFA World Cup, FIFA Ranking, Explore FIFA and Settings. The World Match Centre is where you can view in-depth details on your favourite leagues and teams. The app lets you add up to 3 leagues and teams to your favourites and even uses your location to get information on your local football league. There’s an option that lets you add all matches of your favourite team to your calendar, which is a nice touch. The FIFA World Cup section is where you can view every little detail about the next World Cup. This app will definitely be one of the best ways to consume football news when the World Cup begins next year.

The Explore FIFA section has an extraordinary UI and uses animations that I haven’t witnessed before. It’s really amazing how much effort has gone in to making this section and you can tell how much this means to FIFA. This section mainly displays content on how FIFA uses the power of football to build a better future. The view contains pages that you can switch between by swiping sideways. Each page has details about a program or stories on how FIFA has brought about a change in people’s lives with the help of football. There are mini games within each story that are related to the program that get you more involved. This is definitely my favourite section of the app.
I wish the app had notifications for critical game moments for your favourite teams, but FIFA seems to be more focused on delivering news. I’m not very fond of the font used in the news section of the app and I hope that the developers add a method to switch between fonts in the future. All things considered, FIFA looks absolutely gorgeous and you’d be silly not to download it even if you don’t follow the sport, especially since it’s available Free on the App Store for iPhone and iPad as well as on Google Play for Android devices.
