Tumblr today released version 4.0 of their iOS app, a terrific update that brings a whole lot of goodies and freshness to the app. The app has had a spectacular user interface for a while now and this release only makes it a stunning app to post to & browse all the micro-blogs on Tumblr.
This release adds a Today widget on iOS 8 that lets you browse the hot topics that are currently trending on Tumblr in the form of thumbnails and keywords. The most welcome change in this release has to be the ability to create video posts by using just the URL, instead of trying to find the embed code. The Search in the app has been enhanced and you can now filter the results by post type. Trying to find the quote you vaguely remember? You can narrow down your search to just quote posts. You can also now create new secondary blogs from within the app if you get that genius idea when you’re out and about, as well as submit your content to blogs that accept submissions on Tumblr. Other improvements include a better iPad layout and better support for GIFs.
The only aspect of this update that I don’t like is the new icon. I mean, the old one was just fine. Thankfully, the developers are open to feedback and are already considering iterating on it. Tumblr 4.0 is available as a Universal app Free on the App Store.
