Today is a beautiful and elegant habit tracking app for iPhone. It lets you add your daily goals and is designed to motivate you as you move towards your goals, as well as give you an insight into how you’ve been doing since you started. Today has been ingeniously crafted by the talented duo at Neybox, previously known for Pillow the gorgeous and powerful sleep-cycle tracking app for iPhone, and also my personal favorite.
Today is far more advanced than a typical habit tracker app, which usually lets you just maintain a continuous streak and reach your goals. When you add a goal, Today allows you to select a background cover image per goal. This creates visual goals for you to keep track of and get motivated by. For example, you can set a photo of a person running for a goal called “Exercise”. This may seem trivial, but works so much better than just a string of text. You can swipe left or right to move between habits or tap on the hamburger button at the top left to view them as a list. Double tapping on each goal works as a “Check-in” for that goal for the day. As you complete your goals, you can earn badges in the app, very similar to the ones on the Apple Watch.
Swiping up on a card reveals Today’s Cards. You can add various types of cards to each of your habits, such as Apple Health Charts, Custom Charts, Custom Counters, Milestones and Todo Lists, Journal & Notes and Photo Galleries. The developers say that more types of cards are coming to the app in upcoming versions. There’s also a Calendar that displays how you’ve been doing during a month.
Although I’ve only been using Today for a few days, it has easily managed to impress me. It’s evident that it has been meticulously crafted and there’s a lot of polish gone into the app. Today is available for Free on the App Store, with a $4.99 IAP that unlocks the Premium features, including:
- Data Backup and Restore via iCloud or Dropbox
- Unlimited Cards (Free version only allows one of each)
- Unlimited Habits (Free version only allows three)
- Touch ID
- Custom Covers (Take your own photo or Choose from Camera Roll)
Neybox is also working on building a Today Widget as well as an Apple Watch app, so your Check-ins will be a lot faster.
