Riposte 1.6 At launch, Riposte was my favourite App.net app. Just like with Unread, Riposte had great in app navigation. When iOS 7 hit, I was pretty disappointed with the Riposte UI update. Riposte 1.6 is now available with a really elegant facelift. The main stream hasn’t changed too much but the iOS 7 design language has been applied throuhout the app now. The sidebar in particular looks really good now and any font changes you make are reflected all over the app. The update also adds support for Jared’s OvershareKit that every social app should use. A number of…

When it comes to social apps on Android, the gold standard is Robin for App.net. Almost every Twitter app I’ve bought and tried has let me down. Apps either run out of tokens or get pirated enough to not make development worth it. I used to use Falcon Pro and then got to know about Robird for Twitter quite a few months ago. This was the only Twitter app on my Nexus 4 that scrolled well. It is almost unbelievable how well it scrolls compared to other apps on the platform. With 2GB of RAM and a super fast processor,…

Pushpin is the reason I signed up for Pinboard. It looked great on iOS 6 on iPhone, and at that time was lacking a bit on iPad. After iOS 7 shipped, I’ve moved onto using Pinner and Pinswift. Pinswift being my favourite pinboard app for iPhone. Pushpin finally got a huge update and is now at 3.0.1. Pushpin’s update not only brings the fresh coat of paint it desperately needed, but it also brings a wealth of new features and finally introduces a split pane interface for the iPad. Pushpin 3 was designed and developed by Dan Loewenherz with the…

Muzei Last year, Roman Nurik released Dash Clock that is something Android should have had from the get go. It is the best lock screen widget available. It even has an API and most of my favourite Android apps have extensions for Dash Clock. Today, one year later, Roman Nurik releases Muzei for Android. Live wallpapers are mostly hit or miss, with many looking plain ugly. Muzei refreshes your home screen wallpaper with a work of art each day. You can also set your own source for the images from your library. It even has an amazing blur and dim…

When Vesper released a few months ago, there were reviews praising its elegance, reviews scoffing at the app’s seemingly lack of features, and posts hating on the app because John Gruber directed the app. At the time, I honestly didn’t bother with the app and I bought it over the holidays because I wanted to check it out. This turned out to be a great decision. This review may come months after the app launched, but it deserves to be here. Vesper is not just a minimal notes app for iPhone. It is one of the most polished pieces of…

Evernote 7.3 for iOS When iOS 7 hit the public, Evernote was one of the few big name brands to actually do something innovative with its UI overhaul. The app update was unique, oozed character and looked fantastic. There were a few nagging complaints with the new homescreen arrangemenet and they eventually fixed everything. With version 7.3 that hit a week ago, the app now boasts 2 new themes for the homescreen on iPhone and sidebar on iPad. The dark theme is elegant and looks phenomenal. The light theme will be welcome by people who disliked the new look. The…
