The App Store has proven that to have something powerful, feature rich, and beautiful, doesn’t require the largest of landscapes. And this OS X Dashboard widget has been out to prove just that since March 2007. Minutes, by designer Kei Sasaki, is the smallest widget on my Dashboard. It’s so small, it makes the default clock look like it’s squandering pixels. It’s also one of the most feature rich widgets on my Dashboard. Minutes is a countdown timer that allows you to execute certain actions like playing iTunes playlists, opening files, or putting your Mac to sleep, when that timer…

The moment Momento’s splash screen shows up, you know you’re in for a treat. The noisy background reminds you of an old parchment, perfect for penning down your thoughts. Which is what Momento is, an app to write down a journal of daily events. Momento has got colours right. Right from the tab bar to the compose window. Rules lines with subtle crease shadows make the whole experience feel real. Considering it’s made by designers, I’m not surprised. Apart from its looks, the app is a fairly good journler. File sharing has always been a seedy business, trying to find the right host with the right amount of speed, size and time restrictions, and the least amount of friction for the receiving end. Sites like Rapidshare and Mediaupload are common names in the game. The problem is, we’ve been made to think that these assholes are doing us a huge favour by hosting our files, for which we have to pay by dealing with bad design, poor user experience, and zero end user satisfaction. Enter Upload Robots. You can definitely feel the Apple-centric design philosophy behind the site. The…

The Mac was the hallmark of stupedous user interfaces. That is, until the iPhone came along. Suddenly the challenge of getting everything right within the confines of a 3.5 inch screen became a lot more appealing to developers, who have been pelting out some awesomes over the last year. While a lot of them are above average, approaching good, here’s some of them that surpass fantastic. Yes yes, I know there’s a lot more, but we’ll get to those one by here. These to me represent the hall of fame. Tapbots Needs no introduction does it? I’ll attempt one anyway.…

[tweetmeme] Ever since the day themers found the resource files for changing the Leopard dock, the themes have just flown out. At first it was abstract stupid stuff that made its way to ‘dock sites’ like dockulicious and leopard docks, but it’s only later that serious designers put their hard work into creating some visually appealing and functional docks, perfect as a replacement to the grey dock that comes with your Mac. Many of these docks are meant to be used with CandyBar from Panic Software, which is one tool you need if you’re going to be theming your Mac.…

[tweetmeme] The app store may be crowded with games, but don’t let this one’s title deceive you. The Font Game, produced by ilovetypography.com, is a brilliant exercise in typography, right on your iPhone. What is it? You’re shown a word “fargo” in a particular typeface, and given for options to choose from. The ‘test’ runs for around 30 such slides, and you’re judged according to how many you answer correctly along with the time you’ve taken. There’s three modes of difficulty, picking from a selection of over 600 fonts. The thing that stands out in this app, is the beautiful…
