I love it when app developers spend time on UX design instead of pursuing the obvious approach. I reviewed ComicStrip for SA, and if you ever feel the need to share single non-contextual images on your social networks, this is the perfect app for the job. Not only does ComicStrip sport a very smart coat of pixel paint, there’s a lot of thoughtful UX design that’s evident as you use the app. For instance, when you launch the app, there isn’t any template choosing whatsoever, you’re all set to create your first comic strip. My first encounter with Simurai’s work was with the tilt-shift text effect he pulled off using just CSS. Yes, the same thing you see in the image above. Rudberg of course seems to have been the driving force behind the design, as he introduces the app on his blog: During one of…

As much as I think the service is uninteresting, Path surely has some good design in its iPhone app. Everything from the sign up process to viewing friends, to publishing pictures, it’s smooth pixels all the way. When I first saw the screenshots, I thought this was an app I’d use every day. It was only when I got to know the whole story did I figure it was a waste of my time.
